Hey. I just wanted to get somebody elses opinion. So I'm 14 months post relaxer & my hair has grown a lot ( but probably not as much as it should, b/c my fear of split ends caused me to trim a few times) well the left side of my hair is much shorter than the right. When I style my hair its not very noticeable b/c I shape my hair the way I want it. But its really bothering me. Should I go to a professional, like miss jessies curl bar and have it shaped? Or is an uneven fro normal?

Both. You should go to a professional if it’s really bothering you… Get the style and shape you desire and be assured that your hair is healthy. Uneven hair is totally normal though…

Keep me posted!

Losing Hope..

Hello my loves! I’m 20 years old & I just recently decided to ditch my relaxers! *insert big sigh of relief* I’m really determined to go natural bc I know it’s so much healthier than the relaxers, but I’m still VERY scared. I have a head full of beautiful, long, & healthy relaxed hair. So, I just KNOW I’ll get a lot of sneers & disapproving looks bc of my decision. I don’t really feel like I have any kind of support system, which makes it really hard to stay strong during this process. I guess my whole reason for submitting this is……really to just ask for any encouraging words and/or helpful transitioning tips that any of you naturals (or ‘transitioners’) may have to help. I really don’t want to give up on this journey just bc of negativity from some when I know there are so many positive outlooks out there. Thanks a lot guys!

I'm 17 and I've been getting my hair relaxed since I was about in the third grade. I'm graduating in June and I'm going to BC my hair in about three weeks. I know my hair is going to a really long time to grow back to the length it was before I started relaxing and that I'm going to have to really take care of it well. I was just wondering if you thought that maybe using box braids as a protective style would be a good idea, and if not, could you give me some helpful hints? Thanks!

Hey chica! Congrats on making this big decision… Box braids are a great protective style as long as they’re not too tight and you keep them moisturized. Moisture is key in retaining length so that you can reach your hair goals. Best wishes, keep me posted :-)

My hair isn’t usually parted this way. I took a shower yesterday, so for some reason, it came out like this when I unbraided it. I’m starting to like my natural hair, but I’m thinking of new styles for it.

I think the main problem with my hair is the frizz. What natural, non-chemical (maybe homemade?) products can I use to get rid of frizz, because I have a lot of it.

Tons of people are making flax seed gel to provide moisture and slick  their hair down. Have you heard of it?

Hello! Love your TUMBLR!! Most gorgeous pics ever!! I went natural in 2009 and then locked my hair in 2010. I had locks for about 2.5 years and just recently combed them out. My hair is a medium length now, and I am having the toughest time finding styles to do and getting my hair to look the way I want just out. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Is your hair thin since you combed the locs out? If so, I’d suggest keeping it moisturized and using castor oil on your scalp to help thicken your new growth. Try protective styling. I’m not sure how you want your hair to look and when I browsed your blog (which is great btw) I only saw photos of you with locs. Hope I helped a little bit! :-)
